Situated at an altitude of 2,084 metres above sea level, Nainital is set in a valley containing a pear-shaped lake, approximately two miles in circumference, and surrounded by mountains.  From the tops of the higher peaks, "magnificent views can be obtained of the vast plain to the south, or of the mass of tangled ridges lying north, bounded by the great snowy range which forms the central axis of the Himalayas."

Nainital Lake

Nainital Lake, a natural freshwater body, is kidney shaped or crescent shaped and has an outfall at the southeastern end.The lake is bounded by the high and steep Naina peak on the North West side, by the Tiffin Top to the south west side and snow view peaks on the north. Coniferous forest trees cover these hill ranges. 

Snow View

From the Nainital town the Snow View top is a 3 km trek. At the top, one can have a close up view of Nanda Devi the second highest Himalayan peak of the country.

At the upper end of the attractive Nainital lake, a temple of Naina Devi is located.


Located at 1706 mts above the sea level and 11 km away from Nainital Bhowali is famous for its scenic grandeur and is an important hill fruit market.
