Thekkadi (Idukki distrct) is the location of the Periyar National Park which is an important tourist attraction in the Kerala State of India. It is located near to Kerala-Tamilnadu border. 

It is home to herds of elephants, sambar, tigers, gaur, lion-tailed Macaques and Nilgiri Langurs. 

Thekkady is considered as a heaven for natural spices such as black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove.

Chellar Kovil

This is located about 15 km from Kumily en route to the Theni district of Tamil Nadu. This place has a lot of picturesque waterfalls and cascades.


Located at about 13 km from Kumily on the Kumily-Munnar road. A new airport is proposed at Anakkara and is under review by theAirports Authority of India.

Mangala Devi Temple

It is situated about 15 km from Thekkady at an altitude of 1337 m above sea level. It is surrounded by lush greenery and is closed throughout the year except during the Chitra Pournami festival. At other times tourists can still visit it by getting a special letter from the forest ranger. 

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

 It is a protected area in the districts of Idukki and Pathanamthitta in Kerala, India. It is notable as an elephant reserve  and a tiger reserve.It is an important tiger and elephant reserve. It is valuable for Indian elephant.


5 Km from Kumily, this picturesque spectrum of exotic flora, fauna and gurgling streams is cradled between chellarkovil and the Tamil Nadu border. A popular picnic spot, Pandikuzhi offers great opportunities for trekking and is photographers delight.


18 km from Thekkady, The River Periyar flowing through the centre of this town nourishes its vast tea, coffee and pepper plantations. A major trade centre, Vandiperiyar is also home to a number of tea factories. THe Goverment Agriculture Farm and Flower Garden have a delight array of rose plants, orchids and anthuria.


25 km from Kumily, This is one of the worlds largest auction centres for cardamom. A walk through the sprawling cardamom plantations of Vandanmedu is a heady experience.


43 km from Thekkady, 26 km from Periyar, The widing journey to this hill town, along to the Periyar River, offers a stuning view of the hills draped in lush greenery.
